Feature Spotlight: Barbara Stewart
Each day this week we will be spotlighting one of the first six "Lawndale: A Living History" featured elders and mentors on the blog. Today's spotlight: Barbara Stewart, whose photo can be found on the “front” side of the Lawndale Pop-Up Spot, facing 16th Street. Please visit her profile page on the Living History virtual exhibit for much more on Miss Barbara!
Barbara Stewart is a lifelong resident of North Lawndale, who has lived at her current address for over 50 years. She's an educator by training, and loves to work in arts and crafts on a myriad of projects. One of her projects, "Ungun," is represented in the indoor "Lawndale: A Living History" exhibit, as a poster in the artifacts section. She loves traveling with her daughter, who lives in San Francisco and has a Masters in Urban Planning.
Here's a snippet of an interview with Barbara, by Jay Simon, over the summer. The video - along with her audio interview with StoryCorps, biography, and additional photos - are all available on her page on the Lawndale: A Living History virtual exhibit. Part 2 of the video will be uploaded soon.
Thanks so much to Miss Barbara for sharing her stories with us!
