THE VILLAGE: PT.2 (One United Nation)

by Jay Simon, curator, "Lawndale: A Living History"

How do you think about history when you are living through history?

I think about history by studying the past in order to better the future.

In the last blog post entitled, The Village: Past. Present and Future, we defined what a village was and observed the state and climate of various eras through insights from a music perspective.

Before we get into the music perspective breakdown of the Future eras and beyond. I would like to define a few key words that will support our music perspective and culture breakdown.

Unity – The state of being united or joined as a whole. Being together or at one with someone or something. (Togetherness, Oneness)

Group Economics – Can be defined as when one group of people who have a common economic interest agrees to actively and consciously pursue that economic interest to create a sustainable and secure economy for themselves.

Legend – (1) an unverified story handed down from earlier times, especially one popularly believed to be historical. (2) a person whose fame or notoriety makes him or her a source of exaggerated or romanticized tales

Living Legend – is a person who is both alive and either famous or notorious person especially in a particular field.

The Village Breakdown by Era, continued

The Future Era (2020)
  • Donald Trump is President | Trumpnomics
  • Kanye West, becomes a Billionaire & attempts to run for president
  • Due to job market, unemployment rate and pandemic, more people start businesses
  • Musical Soundtrack: ScHool Boy Q Song: THat Part ft. Kanye West
With quotables, such as

Nigga with an Attitude, I feel like O’Shea
Walking Living Legend, man I feel like Kobe

In this reference, the late, great Kobe Bryant has been revered for his “Mamba Mentality,” his insane work ethic, and his strategy and approach towards the game of Basketball and Life.

In similar fashion, Kanye expresses how he feels like Kobe, sharing similar methods and approaches in his very own success. Throughout Kanye’s entire career, he has always had the “mentality” and “confidence” to believe in himself and then go put in the work to achieve the results.

The death of Nipsey Hussle has caused gangs in Los Angeles to come together to honor his legacy. Members from the Bloods, Crips and more gangs around the L.A area put their differences aside to participate in a “Unity Walk” Friday, April 5th 2019.

What is Vector 90?

Beyond 2020
  • Boost in Cultural Financial Awareness & Education
  • Move towards the direction of a Cashless currency society
  • Bridging the gap between black and brown community and business relations.
  • Musical Soundtrack: D Smoke | Black Habits | No Commas
D Smoke is a bilingual, multi-instrumentalist music artist who bridging genres as well as the black and Latinx communities. D Smoke spent years as a Spanish and music theory teacher at his alma matter High School in Inglewood, California.

Quotable from the song No Commas:

They buying everything in my city like, Property value rising they gone gentrify it
This ain’t rocket science let me simplify, we think we Owners, we only renters why?

Township, Inglewood about to belong to whites, unless we buy this shit up and invest in our own society.

The real question is can black and brown people but their differences aside to work and build together in solidarity?

I think we can.
